High-Performance Lithium Battery Anodes Using Silicon Nanowires
2008 · paper · Materials
Supporting methods for lithium battery anodes made of silicon nanowires grown directly on stainless steel. They describe nanowire growth, electrochemical testing, electron microscopy and X-ray characterization, and electrical measurements on single nanowires. No results are given in the text shown.

3 minor (typos and the like; most checked by the judge only)
Typo Microbalance manufacturer printed as "microbalance (Sartarious SE2, 0.1 μg resolution)"; the maker's name is presumably spelled "Sartorius".
- p. 1 Materials and Methods, first paragraph
Sartarious SE2, 0.1 μg
- p. 1
using a microbalance (Sartarious SE2, 0.1 μg resolution)
- p. 1 Materials and Methods, SiNW mass
Sartarious SE2
- p. 1
microbalance (Sartarious SE2, 0.1 μg
Only the authors can say what is right here.
Judge's note: Rests on outside knowledge: the SE2 microbalance is made by a company spelled 'Sartorius'. The crop of page 1 (Materials and Methods) shows 'Sartarious SE2, 0.1 μg resolution' exactly as printed, so this is not an extraction artefact. It is a cosmetic misspelling of a proper name.

Typo "confirmed by XRD)" is used on page 2 before the abbreviation is defined; the term is then written "x-ray diffraction (PANalytical X'Pert" with no abbreviation and lower-case x, and only defined at the third mention, "X-ray diffraction (XRD)" (pages 2-3).
- p. 2 Materials and Methods, top of page
confirmed by XRD)
- p. 2 Materials and Methods, characterization paragraph
x-ray diffraction (PANalytical X’Pert
- p. 3 Materials and Methods, top of page
ray diffraction (XRD), samples were placed
Judge's note: Checked the page 2 and page 3 images. The order is as described: XRD undefined at the top of page 2, "x-ray diffraction" lower-case and unabbreviated in the characterization paragraph, then "For X-ray diffraction (XRD)" across the page 2/3 break. The same paragraph also prints "energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer" with a capital X, so the capitalisation is inconsistent within the document. Meaning is unaffected and XRD is a universally understood abbreviation; this is a house-style point only.

Typo Figure S1 caption reads "Cyclic voltammagram (CV)"; the word is "voltammogram".
- p. 3 Figure Captions, Figure S1
Cyclic voltammagram (CV)
- p. 3
Figure S1. Cyclic voltammagram (CV) of a 75 nm
Judge's note: The page 3 image shows "Figure S1. Cyclic voltammagram (CV) of a 75 nm Au film", so it is not an extraction artefact. The document spells the related term "cyclic voltammetry" correctly on page 2. A plain misspelling of an ordinary technical word with an evident fix.
