Graphcut Textures: Image and Video Synthesis Using Graph Cuts

ACM SIGGRAPH 2003 Papers, 2003 · paper · Computer science

Introduces a texture synthesis method for images and video that copies patches from a sample and stitches them along optimal seams found with graph cuts. It also supports interactively merging images into new scenes.

Reference or label Efros & Freeman entry ("Proceedings of SIGGRAPH 2001 (August), 341–346. ISBN 1-58113-292-1.") has the same ISBN as the Ashikhmin entry for the 2001 ACM Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics (March).
  • p. 8 References, Efros and Freeman 2001
    346. ISBN 1-58113-292-1.
  • p. 8 References, Ashikhmin 2001

Only the authors can say what is right here.

Judge's note: Rests on outside knowledge: that different proceedings volumes (SIGGRAPH 2001 and I3D 2001) carry different ISBNs. The p.8 image shows ISBN 1-58113-292-1 in both entries, which name different venues and months. By contrast, the two SIGGRAPH 2000 entries share 1-58113-208-5 consistently. At least one of the two 2001 entries is probably wrong; the authors should check.

4 minor (typos and the like; most checked by the judge only)
Typo In-text citation spells the author "Ashikmin [2001]" (p.2) while the reference list entry reads "ASHIKHMIN, M. 2001. Synthesizing natural textures." (p.8).
  • p. 2 Section 2 Related work, third class paragraph
    Ashikmin [2001]
  • p. 8 References, first entry
ASHIKHMIN, M. 2001. Synthesizing natural textures.
  • p. 8 References
    ASHIKHMIN, M. 2001.

Judge's note: Checked both page images: p.2 right column reads 'Ashikmin [2001]'; p.8 reference list reads 'ASHIKHMIN, M.'. The paper spells the same cited author two ways; the text form is missing an 'h'.

Typo Doubled determiner: "the flexibility of the our seam optimization technique" (p.2, left column).
  • p. 2 Section 1, paragraph continuing at top of left column
the flexibility of the our seam optimization

Judge's note: The page image shows 'of the our seam optimization' as printed. One of the two determiners should be deleted.

Typo "where as [Bar-Joseph et al. 2001] can extend it to a finite length only" should read "whereas" (p.7, Section 7D).
  • p. 7 Section 7D, last paragraph
where as [Bar-Joseph et al. 2001] can extend it to a finite length

Judge's note: The page image shows 'where as' with a space in the middle of a line, so it is not a line-break artefact.

Typo Double full stop in Acknowledgements: "Tim Seaver and Artbeats Inc.. Finally".
  • p. 8 Acknowledgements

Judge's note: The p.8 image shows 'Inc..' printed with two periods. The abbreviation period should serve as the sentence period.
