Endovascular Therapy for Ischemic Stroke with Perfusion-Imaging Selection
2015 · paper · Clinical trials
A randomized trial of clot-retrieval thrombectomy plus alteplase versus alteplase alone in 70 stroke patients selected by CT perfusion imaging. Thrombectomy improved reperfusion, early recovery, and 90-day functional independence (71% versus 40%); the trial stopped early for efficacy.

Substance Text: "ordinal analysis of the score on the modified Rankin scale at 90 days (generalized odds ratio, 2.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.2 to 3.8; P = 0.006)". Table 3 gives adjusted 2.0 with P 0.02 and no interval, and unadjusted "2.1 (1.2 to 3.8)" with P 0.006; footnote: "This method does not produce confidence intervals."

Only the authors can say what is right here.
Judge's note: Checked the page 5 text and the Table 3 row and footnote on the page 6 image. The text's three numbers match neither column: the point estimate 2.0 is the adjusted one, while the interval 1.2 to 3.8 and P = 0.006 are printed beside the unadjusted estimate 2.1. The footnote says the adjusted permutation method yields no interval, so the interval cannot belong to 2.0, and the methods (page 3) state the adjusted analysis was prespecified as primary, for which the table's P value is 0.02. The other P values in the same paragraph (0.002, 0.01, 0.001) are the adjusted ones. This is a text-versus-table mismatch for one analysis, not a P-versus-interval inference. Only the authors can say whether the text should read 2.1 (unadjusted throughout) or 2.0 with P = 0.02 and no interval, hence author_query.

Judge's note: Read on the funding crop of page 9: the country is given twice in one funder's name ("Australian ... of Australia"). The abstract on page 1 (text layer) names the same body as "the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council". The redundancy is visible within the paper itself; no outside fact is needed. Cosmetic.

Typo Running text on page 3 prints "the modified Rankin Scale, which ranges from 0 (normal) to 6 (death)" with a capital S, while the rest of the running text uses "modified Rankin scale" (for example "score on the modified Rankin scale at 90 days" in the same page).

score on the modified Rankin scale at 90 days
Judge's note: Checked on the page 3 image: first column has "Rankin Scale", second column has "Rankin scale". Pages 4, 5 and 6 (Table 3) use lower case in running text. Figure 2's title and reference titles are title case and not counted. Purely a capitalisation inconsistency.
