Cardiovascular Risk Reduction with Icosapent Ethyl for Hypertriglyceridemia
2019 · paper · Clinical trials
A randomized placebo-controlled trial of icosapent ethyl in 8,179 statin-treated patients with elevated triglycerides. Ischemic events occurred in 17.2% versus 22.0% on placebo, but atrial fibrillation hospitalizations were more frequent with the drug.

3 minor (typos and the like; most checked by the judge only)
Typo Missing word "of": "point event was 28 (95% CI, 20 to 47) over a median follow-up 4.9 years." The parallel sentence on page 5 reads "over a median follow-up of 4.9 years".
- p. 7 Results, Clinical End Points, continuation paragraph at bottom of left column (key secondary end point NNT)
over a median follow-up 4.9 years
- p. 5 Results, Clinical End Points (parallel sentence for the primary end point)
over a median follow-up of 4.9 years
- p. 5 Results, Clinical End Points (parallel sentence for the primary end point)
follow-up of 4.9 years
- p. 7 Clinical End Points, continuation of key secondary NNT sentence
point event was 28 (95% CI, 20 to 47) over a me-dian follow-up 4.9 years.
Judge's note: Viewed page 7: the left column prints "over a me-dian follow-up 4.9 years.23,24" with no "of". Page 5 prints "over a median follow-up of 4.9 years.23,24". The word is absent in the published page image, so this is not an extraction artefact.

Typo The same region row (143/1053 and 167/1053 in Figure 2; 93/1053 and 117/1053 in Figure 3) is labelled "Eastern Europe" in Figure 2 but "Eastern European" in Figure 3, Table 1 and the Figure 2 legend ("Eastern European region includes Poland").
- p. 6 Figure 2, Region subgroup, second row
Eastern Europe
- p. 8 Figure 3, Region subgroup, second row
Eastern European
- p. 7 Figure 2 legend
Eastern European region includes Poland
Judge's note: Viewed the page 6 and page 8 figure images and the page 7 legend. Figure 2 prints "Eastern Europe" and Figure 3 prints "Eastern European"; the Table 1 text and the Figure 2 legend use "Eastern European". The denominators are identical, so it is the same subgroup. Cosmetic label inconsistency; the meaning is unchanged.

Report a problem with this finding
Typo Figure 3 labels a subgroup "Baseline hsCRP" (and another "Baseline diabetes"), whereas Figure 2 uses "Baseline high-sensitivity CRP" and "Diabetes at baseline"; "hsCRP" is not defined anywhere in the article, and the Figure 3 legend, ending "drawn from the intervals may not be reproducible.", has no abbreviation key.
- p. 8 Figure 3, last subgroup heading
Baseline hsCRP
- p. 6 Figure 2, last subgroup heading
Baseline high-sensitivity CRP
- p. 9 Figure 3 legend
drawn from the intervals may not be reproducible.
Judge's note: Viewed the page 6 and page 8 figures and the page 9 legend. The labels differ as described. A search of the article text finds "hsCRP" only once, in Figure 3. The Figure 3 legend gives no abbreviations, while the Figure 2 legend defines CRP, GFR, HDL and LDL. Cosmetic: the meaning can be inferred from Figure 2.
