Rosuvastatin to Prevent Vascular Events in Men and Women with Elevated C-Reactive Protein
2008 · paper · Clinical trials
A randomized trial of rosuvastatin versus placebo in 17,802 apparently healthy people with low LDL cholesterol but elevated C-reactive protein. Stopped early, it found rosuvastatin cut major cardiovascular events (hazard ratio 0.56), with more physician-reported diabetes.

8 minor (typos and the like; most checked by the judge only)
Wording The Results define 'not overweight' as 'body-mass index ... ≤25', but the Figure 2 BMI categories are '<25.0', '25.0–29.9' and '≥30.0'.
- p. 6 Results, Subgroup Analyses
the height in meters] ≤25)
- p. 9 Figure 2, BMI subgroup
<25.0
Judge's note: The p6 crop shows '≤25' and the Figure 2 image (p9) shows '<25.0'. A BMI of exactly 25.0 falls in different groups under the two definitions. The difference is small, but the boundary is inconsistent.

Wording The Results (p6–7) and the Discussion ('those with LDL cholesterol levels of 100 mg per deciliter or less') report a consistent effect in an LDL ≤100 mg/dl subgroup, but Figure 2 has no LDL subgroup and neither passage cites another source.

ATP-III risk factor
Judge's note: Figure 2 (p9) lists sex, age, smoking, race, region, hypertension, family history, BMI, metabolic syndrome, Framingham score, ATP-III risk factors and time of event. It has no LDL category. The Results passage on p6–7 gives no figure or supplement pointer for this subgroup, unlike the other subgroups it cites to Fig. 2, and the supplement is not among the files. The claim is made without data shown or cited.

Wording The Discussion states 'robust reductions in cardiovascular events ... in women and black and Hispanic populations', but the article shows race only as 'White' vs 'Nonwhite' (5,117) in Figure 2, with no separate black or Hispanic estimate.
- p. 8 Discussion, first paragraph
black and Hispanic populations for which data on primary prevention are limited
- p. 9 Figure 2, Race or ethnic group
Nonwhite
Only the authors can say what is right here.
Judge's note: Figure 2 (p9) shows only the pooled Nonwhite group. Its count exceeds the black-or-Hispanic total of 4485 stated on p5, so the group also includes others. No supplementary reference supports the specific subgroup statement. Authors should say where the black and Hispanic results are reported.

Wording The Figure 2 legend says 'The dashed vertical line indicates the overall relative risk reduction for the complete trial cohort', but the line is drawn on the hazard-ratio axis at the overall hazard ratio (about 0.56).
- p. 9 Figure 2 legend
The dashed vertical line indicates the overall relative risk reduction for the complete trial cohort.
Judge's note: In the p9 image the dotted line sits just right of 0.50, matching the overall HR of 0.56 in Table 3. The legend names the reduction (44%) rather than the plotted hazard ratio. This is loose wording.

Typo The running head on the odd pages reads 'Rosuvastatin to Prevent Vascular Events in Patients with Elevated C-Reactive Protein', while the title reads '...in Men and Women with Elevated C-Reactive Protein'.

Judge's note: The page images confirm the running head on p3, p9 and p13 says 'in patients with'. The Discussion (p7) describes the population as 'apparently healthy men and women', so 'patients' fits it loosely. Journals often adapt running heads, so this is a cosmetic consistency point only.
