Cryo-EM Structure of the 2019-nCoV Spike in the Prefusion Conformation

2020 · paper · Biomedicine

Determines a 3.5-angstrom cryo-EM structure of the 2019-nCoV spike trimer in its prefusion form, with one receptor-binding domain typically rotated up. The spike binds ACE2 more tightly than SARS-CoV's, and tested SARS-CoV antibodies showed no appreciable binding.

Reference or label Reference 31 names a preprint server but supplies a journal volume and page range: "31. X. Tian et al., bioRxiv 9, 382-385 (2020)."

Judge's note: I read adjudicate/crops/C004-a.png and C004-c.png and the full page extract/png/main-p004.png. Entry 31 is printed exactly as quoted, with "bioRxiv" italicised in the journal-title position followed by a bold volume "9" and the page range "382-385". This is internally inconsistent with the same reference list's own preprint style, entry 25: "bioRxiv 929042 [Preprint]. 31 January 2020. https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.01.31.929042." No other entry in the list pairs a repository name with a volume and page range, and bioRxiv identifiers are six-digit numbers rather than a volume plus an en-dashed page span. As printed, entry 31 mixes two venues and does not identify a locatable source; it is cited in the text at "was then evaluated by BLI (12, 29-31)" (C004-d). The specific identity of the correct journal rests on outside knowledge, but the internal inconsistency of the entry is visible on the page itself.
